VPPA Compliance Statement
Last updated: 5/28/2025
The Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) is a federal law enacted in 1988 that prohibits video tape service providers from knowingly disclosing personally identifiable information (PII) of consumers without their consent. Originally aimed at protecting video rental records, the VPPA has been interpreted to apply to modern digital video services, including streaming platforms and websites that offer video content.
PII
PII (Personal identifiable information) under the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) has a specific definition that has evolved with the digital age. PII is considered to be any information that identifies a person as having requested or obtained specific video materials or services.
